Sun Prairie Food Pantry Surpasses Total Numbers Served in All of Last Year

It has been a record breaking month for the Sun Prairie Food Pantry, as it crossed the threshold of serving more families, households, and unique people than in all of 2022.

This is unprecedented demand for the pantry, putting a strain on the program's volunteers and donation-based budget.

Robust federal support during the height of pandemic, such as increased FoodShare and other benefits, lifted many out of poverty. As those benefits have unwound alongside historically high inflation, many families are struggling to make ends meet and are turning to the pantry to put food on the table.

The Sun Prairie Food Pantry was already seeing a record demand in 2022 when an average of 72,000 pounds of food per month was distributed to families and individuals. Today, that average has increased 30% to 93,000 pounds each month, and daily visits are up 130%.

If you are able to help the pantry, now is the time. Food and personal care item donations can be dropped off at 18 Rickel Road in Sun Prairie, or CLICK HERE to make a financial donation that will be used to help keep the shelves stocked for those in need.
